Yasiin Bey A.K.A. Mos Def Announces Music Retirement

Yasiin Bey A.K.A. Mos Def will be taking a step down from the music industry…

On Tuesday, the rapper released a 10 minute audio message via Kanye West’s website to talk about his arrest in South Africa for using fraudulent travel documents. The recording kicks off with a freestyle “No More Parties in S.A.”  and he raps, “I’ve committed no crime/Why is the state wasting my time?/They must be out of their minds.”

Now the most surprising part of Bey’s message is announced at the end. He says, “I am retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also from Hollywood, effective immediately. I’m releasing my final album this year, and that’s that.”

Before signing off, Yasiin thanks Talib Kweli, producer Mad Lib, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar for being a real friends.
