Music lovers, class is in session…
If you’ve been accepted to New York University, you’re in luck. This fall A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip and music historian Ashley Kahn will be teaching a hip-hop and jazz course at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
According to NYU’s website, the seven-class curriculum will “explore the underappreciated connections between jazz and hip-hop and combines historical and social perspectives with the opportunity to produce original music at the nexus of the two genres.”
During the course, students will learn about artists including The Last Poets, Stetsasonic, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, the Roots, Lauryn Hill, and Kendrick Lamar. The second half of the course will allow students to learn about musicianship, performance, composition, and production “under Q-Tip’s mentorship.”
