Kendrick Lamar Makes History As 1st Rapper To Win Pulitzer Prize For Music

Kendrick Lamar Announces Damn. Pop-Up Shops

Well, hot DAMNNNNNN!

After celebrating the one-year anniversary of the release of Kendrick Lamar‘s Grammy-winning album DAMN. over the weekend, the West Coast rapper earned a new prestigious accolade. Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his album, DAMN., making him the first non-classical or jazz artist to receive the honor.

On Monday, the Pulitzer board made the announcement, calling the 2017 LP “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African American life.”

DAMN. is Kendrick Lamar’s fourth studio album, which has reached double-platinum sales status. The record was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album, which it won and Album of the Year. Unfortunately, Lamar didn’t snag the Album of the Year award, but he totally should have won.
